ITINERARY

CUSCO – RAINBOW MOUNTAIN – RED VALLEY – CUSCO.

Your tour begins at 5:00 a.m., when your professional guide will pick you up from your hotel. We will board our private vehicle and begin our journey to the town of Cusipata, located about 2 hours from Cusco. Along the way, you’ll pass through several traditional villages and enjoy breathtaking views of the Peruvian Andes.

Cusco sits at an elevation of 3,300 m (11,300 ft), while our trailhead, known as Phullawasipata, is located at 4,200 m (13,780 ft). Before reaching the trailhead, we’ll stop in Cusipata to enjoy a delicious local breakfast and gather any last essentials for the hike.

We then continue driving for approximately 50 more minutes, during which we’ll witness dramatic landscapes, mysterious mountains, and deep valleys, until we arrive at Phullawasipata, where our hike begins.

From here, we start our 2-hour uphill hike toward the iconic Rainbow Mountain (Vinicunca), located at an elevation of 5,100 m (16,732 ft). Along the way, you’ll be surrounded by snow-capped peaks, red hills, and herds of llamas and alpacas grazing peacefully across the valley. Upon reaching the summit (approx. 5,038 m / 16,528 ft), you’ll be rewarded with panoramic views of the Andes and the unique multi-colored mountain, painted naturally by mineral-rich soils.

You’ll have ample time to rest, enjoy the view, and take unforgettable photos and videos of this natural wonder.

After soaking in the views, we’ll begin our descent with a detour through the Red Valley—a lesser-traveled but equally spectacular route. The Red Valley gets its name from the rich reddish tones of the soil, caused by a high concentration of iron and other minerals. This trail is often less crowded, offering a peaceful and immersive experience. The descent takes approximately 1 to 1.5 hours back to Phullawasipata, where our private transport will be waiting.

We then return to Cusipata, where we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch with scenic mountain views.

Finally, we drive back to Cusco, arriving around 4:00 p.m., and drop you off at your hotel—ending a day full of adventure, color, and unforgettable Andean landscapes.
