ITINERARY

Day 1:- Puerto Maldonado - Explorer's Inn

Upon arrival at the airport, you will be met and transferred to our office for a brief orientation. Afterwards, we’ll head to the river port to board our motorized canoe for a scenic three-hour journey along the Tambopata River. Along the way, keep an eye out for caimans, turtles, and a variety of aquatic birds. A light snack will be served during the trip.

Upon arrival at the lodge, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing cocktail and have time to settle in. Later, we’ll embark on a short hike to a small lagoon, continuing to Sunset Point to witness an unforgettable Amazonian sunset.

As night falls, we’ll board the canoe again for a caiman spotting excursion, using flashlights to spot these nocturnal reptiles along the riverbanks. Upon returning to the lodge, you’ll enjoy dinner accompanied by resident naturalist guides, who will be available to answer your questions about the Amazon rainforest and the Tambopata National Reserve.

Day 2:- Explorer's Inn - Clay Lick of the Macaws

At dawn, after breakfast, we’ll continue navigating the Tambopata River for approximately 5 to 6 hours, venturing deep into the pristine Amazon rainforest, with excellent chances of spotting wildlife along the way. As we journey upstream, we’ll pass through small waterfalls, fascinating basalt rock formations, and may even observe artisanal gold mining operations. Along sandy banks, there will be opportunities to stop and refresh with a swim in the river.

A cold snack will be served onboard. By late afternoon, we’ll arrive at the famous macaw clay lick—a dramatic 200-meter natural wall, where hundreds of macaws and various species of parrots gather to consume the mineral-rich clay. This vibrant spectacle of color and sound is one of the Amazon’s most remarkable natural shows.

We’ll set up camp on a nearby riverbank, enjoy dinner, and spend the night surrounded by the sounds of the rainforest.

Day 3:- Clay Lick of the Macaws / Explorer's Inn

Early in the morning, we will return to the macaw clay lick to witness once again the breathtaking display of parrots and macaws gathering at dawn, creating an unforgettable scene of colors and sounds.

After this experience, we’ll board our boat and begin the return journey to the Explorer’s Inn, arriving in time for lunch. The afternoon will be free to relax or enjoy an optional activity at your own pace. If the river conditions permit, we may take a short detour to visit another smaller clay lick located along a tributary of the Tambopata River, offering a more intimate wildlife encounter.

Day 4:- Explorer's Inn

Early in the morning, after breakfast, we will embark on a 5.5-kilometer guided hike led by a professional naturalist, heading towards the serene Cocococha Lagoon. Along the trail, there will be opportunities to observe exotic Amazonian plants, colorful butterflies, a wide variety of birds, monkeys, and with luck, some of the larger mammals that inhabit this part of the jungle.

Once at the lagoon, canoes will be available for a short ride across the tranquil waters, where we’ll quietly observe the rich and diverse wildlife along the shores. After this experience, we’ll return to the Explorer’s Inn for a late lunch. The afternoon will be free for rest or to engage in an optional independent activity.

Day 5:- Explorer's Inn - Puerto Maldonado

At dawn, we’ll enjoy an early breakfast before boarding our boat for the return journey. As we navigate the river, you’ll witness an unforgettable sunrise over the Amazon rainforest, a perfect farewell to this unique experience. Upon arrival in Puerto Maldonado, our team will transfer you directly to the airport in time for your departing flight.
