Rainbow Mountain 7 Colors Rainbow Mountain 7 Colors: Vinicunca Ausangate Mountain
The center of the Andean world stands at 3,200 meters above sea level on the Saphi and Choquechaca rivers and is surrounded by snow mountains two of which two are permanently snow peaks, that is, Ausangate (6,600 meters) and Salkantay (6,300 meters) that are considered the protector spirits of the city. On the southern side of Ausangate’s snow peak we can witness a peculiar series of colored mountains that are worth contemplating by reaching the side way after we reach the town of Cheqacupe on the high way to Puno, south of Cusco where the road climbs by road to Pitumarca, village that produces some of the finest weavings of the area and commercialize some of warmest banquets with alpaca wool. From this point and with the help of native farmers, we shall hike up a climb to reach an altitude the allows us to see the variety of peaks and appreciate the mountainous Andes south of the Ausangate peak. The point is called Vinikunka and considered a marvel of nature that is only comparable with Tibet and China and has also been praised by National Geographic as one of the “100 views you should see before you die”. The formation of sedentary layers of halitite of which ocre, green, yellow, white are some of the varieties in their characteristic and peculiar colors that you can witness.
